Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA)

The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association is a cooperative extension of the Roselle Park District, as well as eight other area park districts. We offer more than 1,000 programs, trips and special events to more than 8,000 individuals with special needs each year. Programs range from drama to dance and include a variety of Special Olympics sports and adapted sports as well as programs for individuals with physical challenges. In addition to our own programs, we also offer support to anyone with special needs enrolled in a Roselle Park District program.

Volunteer Opportunities
Over the years, many Roselle residents have volunteered or worked part-time with WDSRA. If you would like to share your time and enthusiasm with us, please contact Wendy Craven, WDSRA’s Manager of Support Services, at (630) 681-0962 or e-mail wendyc@wdsra.com.

Sign Language Classes
WDSRA also offers sign language classes for community members. To register for these programs, contact WDSRA at (630) 681-0962 or visit www.wdsra.com.

Roselle Park District and the ADA
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) took effect in January 1990 and the Roselle Park District complies with the legislation’s purpose which prohibits discrimination on the basis of a disability. The Roselle Park District will make reasonable accommodations in recreation programs to enable participation by an individual with a disability that meets essential eligibility requirements for that leisure program and facilities. The ADA requires that recreation programs offered by the park district be available in the most integrated setting appropriate for each individual. If you have questions about Roselle’s commitment regarding the ADA policy or you believe you have been unfairly discriminated against by the park district, please call the park district at (630) 894-4200.

Accommodation for Persons with Disabilities
Persons with disabilities are encouraged to contact the park district at 894-4200 about special accommodations needed for the enjoyment of park district programs. Those who use the Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) may reach the park district by calling (800) 526-0844.

Inclusion Policy
The Roselle Park District and WDSRA believe each participant should be provided with leisure services to allow for his/her highest level of performance. Inclusion Services are designed to facilitate and ensure opportunities are available in the least restrictive environment and to make certain residents are given the opportunity to choose the services they desire. WDSRA’s goal is to provide a continuum of services to build toward an individual’s independence in their local park district and recreation department. WDSRA complements the park district sponsored program by supplying a variety of services to make the experience successful. WDSRA may provide a support staff for the entire program or until the participant is comfortable with the activity. Inservices, staff training, and resource networking are also available. If you are interested in participating in a park district program and would like WDSRA’s assistance, please contact our office in advance of the Roselle Park District’s registration deadline. There is no additional charge for WDSRA’s support.
